Today marks the formal beginning of the next chapter for Icon, as our new investment partners formally enter the business and Quadrant exits. We announced the transaction back in late May and have been working closely with our new partners QIC, Goldman Sachs and Pagoda since then, but it’s an important day in the company’s history as it signifies the real beginning of this next phase in the Icon story.
Over the past 3 years we’ve built out a strong Australian cancer care presence, with services delivered by one or more of Icon Group’s business units in almost every state and territory plus we’ve expanded into Singapore, New Zealand and China.
The next chapter in our story will see us continue to grow and strengthen our presence in those markets, but as Icon Group CEO Mark Middleton said in a recent interview with UICC (Union for International Cancer Control) ‘The stats are sobering to say the least, with 8 million people dying from cancer per year and the cancer burden in China alone set to increase by 70% over the next two decades. It’s safe to say that the time for action is now if we want to have any chance of making a real difference to these current and predicated cancer patients.’ You can read the full text of Mark’s interview here.
At Icon Group our team is passionate about providing the best possible cancer care to as many people as possible, as close to home as possible, and we’re excited about the role our new partners can play, with their strong reach and connections throughout Asia. This will ensure that we can make a difference to cancer patients located within the region.
Our new partners have spent time getting to know our people and their capabilities, attending our recent leadership day in Brisbane (where they also showed their willingness to embrace our company culture!) and recently spending time with the Singapore teams, joining us to hand out team awards and attending the 1st year celebrations under the Icon SOC banner.
We know this next chapter won’t always be easy – great stories always include some plot twists! – and let’s face it, every chapter previously written has also included a few of those, but we couldn’t be more excited about it, and the opportunity it provides to make a difference in the lives of as many cancer patients and their families as we possibly can.
