Next stop on the itinerary was South Carolina, where we are spending a few days based in Aiken for the US Masters at Augusta.
Stuart has been to Aiken a couple of times previously, but this was the first visit for the rest of us. In addition to the golf, Aiken is horse country, with no shortage of stables, training tracks, polo fields and the like.
It’s a beautiful part of the world and made for a very scenic morning run. The dirt roads, specially constructed to meet the needs of the horses, also worked well for my dodgy achilles!
Run complete, it was time to head to Augusta for a day at the US Masters. With a complete ban on phones, cameras, etc, there was no chance Glass was going to accompany me. The best we could do was a picture out the front.
The boys headed back to the golf the following day, while the Sascha and I took the opportunity to explore this beautiful part of the world a bit further.
Including the famous intersection, whose street signs were intact for our visit, but they require replacing on a regular basis!
Downtown Aiken is home to the historic Hotel Willcox.
Which is directly adjacent to the railway line where Roosevelt had his own stop built so he could immediately access his suite!
Downtown also has a very pretty historic walk, which my newly downloaded Field Trip Glassware was perfect for.
We wandered through the streets, enjoying browsing the multitude of food and gift shops and artworks scattered throughout.
The kids absolutely loved the wonderful Southern hospitality we received which was showcased in some of the largest meals they have ever seen!
We’ve loved our time in the South, and while it’s my first visit, I’m sure it won’t be my last.
