Easter Sunday in New York sees 5th Ave closed between 49th and 57th streets for the annual Easter bonnet parade and this year we went along to check out all the action.
There were no shortage of amazing head wear creations, some Easter-themed:
And others appearing to be completely unrelated to the day itself but equally elaborate!
Small dogs were a popular costume inclusion, all the better if you could dress them up or decorate a stroller to push them around in!
One of the things that really surprised me was that the men seemed to have gone to much greater effort, and turn up in greater numbers, than women on the day – not what I was expecting at an Easter Bonnet Parade, but I’m all for equality, so well done boys!
People paraded their creations through the crowd, happily posing for photos while strangers from the city and all over the globe wished each other Happy Easter and enjoyed the sense of community. A lovely way to spend Easter Sunday afternoon and walk off a bit of the chocolate that the bunny left this morning!
Google Glass made it super easy to snap pictures as I walked along enjoying the creativity on display and I dare say was a fair bit less intrusive to the other spectators and photographers than the proliferation of selfie sticks on display….
