Safari Chic with Dior Haute Couture

From the moment our car pulled up at the front of the Hotel Invalides it was clear that the Dior Haute Couture Autumn Winter 2017-18 was going to be an incredible experience – not that I expected anything less!

The Italian artist Pietro Ruffo had designed the outdoor set, a star shaped ampitheatre and runway with each of the 5 prongs representing a continent Mr Dior had travelled too.

After navigating the paparazzi crush – we arrived at the same time as actress Gemma Arterton so were left in no doubt as to the photographers preference that we move out of the way as quickly as possible so as not to block their shots of her! – we  posed for our own shots in front of the Dior wall.

One of the great things about fashion shows is they invariably start late, which provides a great chance to explore the landscape and pose up a storm before the show, in this case with the very Insta-worthy animal sculptures!

As we took our seats the provided fans were put to good use as temperatures rose, and the show notes provided an exciting insight into what was to come with these works which I can definitely identify with.

‘For Maria Grazia Chiuri, the atlas symbolises a desire for faraway lands, the need to travel to discover the world and onself, to feel emotion, grow and evolve.’

The show itself was as beautiful as you would expect.  These are a few of my favorite looks, but don’t expect to see me sporting any of them any time soon, haute couture pricing puts these in a whole different league to ready to wear!  The exquisite craftsmanship responsible for that pricing differential was clearly apparent though, with the intricate embroidery and next level construction detail easily identifiable.

Maria Grazia appeared to take her bow, confident, assured and knowing that she’d delivered another beautiful collection that paid homage to the heritage of the house, but included her own unique style and flair.

For my new found Dior friends and I – one of the great things about these events is the people you meet and the fun you have together – it was time to put our fans out for one last photo before we headed back to change outfits and freshen up, we had a 70th birthday party to attend!
